Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor, a medication that blocks the conversion of testosterone into estrogen. In men on testosterone replacement therapy, some of the testosterone naturally converts to estradiol (a form of estrogen), and in some patients this conversion produces estrogen levels higher than the body is used to. When estrogen runs high alongside testosterone, some men experience symptoms like water retention, mood changes, or breast tissue sensitivity. Anastrozole may help bring estrogen back into a balanced range. It's compounded by a state-licensed pharmacy based on your clinician's prescription.

What it may help with

  • Estrogen management: may help lower elevated estradiol in men on testosterone therapy

  • TRT side effect support: may help reduce side effects tied to high estrogen, such as water retention, mood swings, or breast tissue sensitivity

  • Hormone balance during testosterone therapy: often used alongside TRT when labs show estradiol running high

What to expect

Anastrozole takes effect quickly; estradiol levels often drop within days of starting therapy. Your clinician will use follow-up lab work to dial in your dose, since the goal is to bring estradiol into a healthy range rather than to push it as low as possible. Estrogen plays important roles in men's health (bone, mood, libido, cardiovascular), and over-suppression can cause its own problems. Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed.

Why patients use anastrozole

  • A small tablet rather than another injection

  • Targeted support specifically for elevated estradiol on TRT

  • Dose-flexible based on individual conversion patterns and lab work

  • An option for men who have tried TRT alone and need additional hormone support

How it works

01

How to take it

One small tablet by mouth, taken on a schedule your clinician sets. Anastrozole is typically dosed two or three times per week at low doses for TRT support rather than daily.

02

Getting started

Anastrozole is generally prescribed as part of an existing or new testosterone therapy plan. After you place your order, you'll complete a short medical intake online and provide recent lab work including estradiol and testosterone levels. A licensed clinician reviews your labs and medical history to determine whether anastrozole is appropriate for you. In some states, a brief telehealth appointment with the clinician may be required (at no extra cost) before a prescription can be issued. If approved, your medication is compounded and shipped discreetly to your door. Most patients receive their first order within one week.

03

Staying on it

After your first delivery, a new monthly supply arrives automatically every 4 weeks, so you don't have to remember to reorder. Your clinician will schedule follow-up lab work periodically to monitor estradiol levels and adjust dosing. You can delay a shipment or cancel anytime from your account.

04

Your dose

Personalized by your clinician and adjusted over time based on follow-up labs. Most patients use a low dose just a few times per week, not daily.

  • Medication compounded by a state-licensed pharmacy
  • Free, discreet monthly shipping
  • Ongoing access to your care team for questions and dose adjustments
  • The ability to pause, delay, or cancel your subscription at any time

A note on dosing philosophy

Estrogen isn't a “male” or “female” hormone; men need a healthy amount of it for bone health, mood, libido, and cardiovascular function. The goal of anastrozole in TRT is to manage estrogen that's running too high, not to eliminate it. Aggressive estrogen suppression often causes more problems than it solves: joint pain, low libido, mood changes, and bone loss over time. Your clinician will dose conservatively and use lab work to keep estradiol in a healthy range for men.

Important to know

  • Anastrozole is a prescription medication, prescribed off-label for hormone management in men on testosterone therapy. The FDA-approved version of anastrozole (Arimidex) is for the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women; its use in men is off-label, based on a growing body of clinical experience.
  • This medication is compounded, meaning it's custom-prepared by a state-licensed pharmacy at the specific low dose your clinician prescribes.
  • Anastrozole is generally prescribed alongside testosterone therapy, not on its own. Your clinician will determine whether it fits your hormone plan based on your labs and symptoms.
  • Possible side effects include joint pain or stiffness, mood changes, fatigue, and over time, effects on bone density if estradiol is suppressed too aggressively. Your clinician will monitor for these.
  • Not everyone is a candidate. Your clinician will review your medical history, possible side effects, and whether this treatment is right for you.
  • Results vary and are not guaranteed.
